Most of the people know the signs of a heart attack, but if there are other clues that might indicate, since the time that your heart is in trouble, they exist.

Researchers studied more patients who within months or years have suffered a heart attack. When the heart and arteries that nourish it are affected, the symptoms can be felt in many areas of the body.

Here are five surprising clues that indicate the need for a cardiovascular examination. Any of these events – in particular or more together, are a reason to contact your doctor.

1. Overview
2. Neck pain
3. Sexual problems
4. Dizziness, faintness or difficulty breathing
5. Indigestion, nausea or heartburn
6. Ear and jaw pain

Neck pain

Do you feel that at the neck edge is a muscle that restricts the ability to move your neck? Attention especially if the discomfort does not disappear. After a heart attack, some patients remember that they had pain in the neck or they felt their throat tight, then symptoms attributed to muscle tension.

Usually, people suffering a heart attack fail to mention and this pain in the neck because the acute pain is more apparent in the chest, shoulder and arm. In women, are less likely to experience such a painful and often events, they feel pain and tightness in the neck and over the shoulder and the pain may extend along the left side of the body.

Heart tissue damaged nerves send pain signals along the spinal cord nerves that support extend to the neck and shoulder.

The most special feature is that pain radiates on a full line rather than in one specific place, and does not improve when applying ice, heat or massage the muscle.

Sexual problems

Problems in achieving or maintaining the rection are common in men with coronary artery disease, but many of them don’t make the link between these two problems.

A study on a group of European men who were taking treatment for cardiovascular disease, revealed that 2 of 3 men were suffering from erectile dysfunction for months or years before being diagnosed with heart problems.

Recent studies on the connection between erectile dysfunction and cardiovascular disease were so convincing, that doctors believe that they have to perform a complete standard physical exam when a man accused suffering from erectile dysfunction.

Concluding, there are explicit evidences to indicate that men with erectile dysfunction are exposed to a a high risk of heart attack.

As the arteries around the heart can become narrow and rigid, as can happen with arteries that provide blood flow to the penis and, because the arteries of the penis are smaller they tend to present lesions earlier than the up around the heart, with about 3-4 years before the cardiovascular disease to be detected.

The particularity of this situation is that the cause will not be immediately spotted. If you have troubles to maintain or achieve erection, it is necessary to address your cardiologist too, for an investigation.

Dizziness, faintness or difficulty breathing

More than 40% of women who have suffered a heart attack, reported that they had difficulty breathing in the days preceding the stroke. If you feel that you can’t breathe, or you feel faint or dizzy as you change altitude, it is a sign that something is wrong.

If you felt shortness of breathing after activities that until then were not difficult, that’s another reason to worry.

Blood flow is low and so can’t carry sufficient amount of oxygen to the heart. Chest pain may occur when you breathe deeply. Coronary artery diseases, on which the plaque builds up and blocks the arteries that nourish the heart, prevent heart getting enough oxygen.

Sudden inability to breathe deeply is often the first sign of angina, a type of heart muscle pain. If breathing difficulties are caused by lung disease, they begin to emerge gradually, while lung tissue damage due to smoking or environmental factors.

Indigestion, nausea or heartburn

Although most people expect the pain associated with a medical condition of the heart to occur in the chest, they should learn that it may occur in the abdomen too. Some people, especially women, manifest heartburn or feeling of fullness.

A severe indigestion or nausea may be early signs of a heart attack or myocardial infarction, especially in women. Fatty deposits can block an artery to reduce or interrupt the supply of blood to the heart, causing what feels like a tightness or pain – the most in the chest, but sometimes in the abdomen area too.

Depending on the area of the heart that was affected, it sends less intense pain signals in the body. Nausea and dizziness may be signs that an attack is underway and you should ask your doctor if these symptoms persist.

Like all types of angina, abdominal pain associated with cardiovascular disease is likely to be stressed when you exercise, and improve when you rest. It is also possible to experience repetition of this episode, rather than to manifest this kind of pain over a prolonged period of time as is the case with strong indigestion or food poisoning.

Ear and jaw pain

Jaw pain are the most mysterious symptoms that can have many causes, but are sometimes signs of coronary artery disease and of an imminent attack. The pain may move along the jaw to the ear and can be quite difficult to determine its origin.

This pain is a symptom on which doctors have recently begun to focus because many patients under medical supervision after a heart attack have said that this type of pain is the only notable event that preceded the attack.

Damaged heart tissue sends pain signals along the spinal cord to control nerves that radiate from the cervical vertebrae along the jaw up to your ear.

Unlike jaw pain caused by some typical joint disorders like dental pain, or ear infections, heart disease pain isn’t feeling in an isolated and determined place, but rather radiates from the outside, delimited.

The pain may spread to the shoulder and arm – especially on the left, and does not improve when applied ice, heat or massage.
