Ativan (Lorazepam) is a know anti-anxiety or anxiolytic drug. This drug is a benzodiazepine drug and works by stabilizing the chemical components of the brain to keep our body and mind relaxed.

How Ambien vs Ativan Need To Be Taken?

Before prescribing Ativan, your physician must take note if you have been diagnosed with glaucoma, respiratory diseases, kidney or hepatic diseases as well as other psychiatric problems including alcohol and drug abuse. Ativan should be taken for short term (no more than four months).

As for Ambien, you have to take the exact dose prescribed by your physician. Do not take this drug during normal waking hours as it may impair your alertness and wakefulness; not unless the next 7 to 8 hours can be devoted only for sleeping.

With regard to both drugs, these should not be crushed, chewed or broken. These drugs should be taken as a whole with a full glass of water. Regularly, your physician may recommend you to undergo some blood tests to identify if no harm whatsoever has been done to your body.

Side Effects That We Need to Watch out for Ambien vs Ativan

Side effects of taking Ativan include confusion, hyperactivity, hallucinations and light headeness. Depression as well as thoughts of self mutilation may also happen when taking this drug.

For Ambien, the side effects that can occur are: daytime drowsiness, dizziness, diarrhea, difficulty with coordination, lightheadedness, dry mouth, sinusitis (rare) and tiredness.

Special Precautions When Taking Ambien vs Ativan

As a sedative, Ativan and Ambien may have the tendency to be in our bloodstream for longer durations, especially for adult people. Be cautious when performing activities like driving, operating heavy machines, etc. More importantly, put in mind that Ativan is contraindicated for use in children less than 12 years old.

Both drugs, when taken during pregnancy may pose threats to the unborn child so you have to confide with your physician if you are pregnant or if you have plans to become pregnant during the treatment period.
