Avocado and liver function

1. Overview

The liver is the largest internal organ. This body carries out many vital functions, including turning food into energy, producing bile for digestion and elimination of waste and toxins from the bloodstream.

For maintaining optimal liver function, healthy eating is essential. One of the healthiest fruits for the liver is avocado. It contains nutrients that help improve liver function and overall health of a person.

Avocado is a popular fruit in vegetarian cuisine, a substitute for meat in sandwiches and salads because it has a high fat content.

It is used in Mexican cuisine in the preparation called guacamole and sushi rolls filling. It can be served mashed or sliced as part of many dishes or spread on toast, served with salt and pepper.

2. Fat content

Avocados are high in fat. A medium sized fruit contains about 22.5 grams of fat. However, a large proportion of this is monounsaturated fat or fat good for the body.

Consumption of monounsaturated fats help lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. The latter redirects bad cholesterol by the liver and the blood and arteries will be much healthier. Liver, through its functions, destroys and remove the fat.

3. Fatty liver

Diseases caused by fatty liver are characterized by an excess of fat in the liver cells, which can lead to its inflammation and hardening.

Replacing saturated fats with monounsaturated fats and eating low glycemic index foods, such as fruits and vegetables instead of chips and snacks, can improve people who have fatty livers.

Avocados not only contain no monounsaturated fat, but also act as a food with a low glycemic index. Daily consumption of monounsaturated fats and limited consumption of saturated fats helps lower triglyceride levels in the liver, especially among people who do not consume alcohol.

4. Vitamins

Avocado contains over 20 minerals, vitamins and natural nutrients. These include vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin E and vitamin C. Some of these vitamins support general condition of the liver and helps in the breakdown of fats.

In addition, folic acid deficiency is associated with an increased risk of liver cancer. Vitamin E is useful for reducing inflammation and fatty liver scarring seen in children. Similarly, vitamin C helps remove fats from the liver, preventing cirrhosis.

5. Warnings

Both peel and seeds found in avocado pulp are poisonous to animals (it affects appetite, lung function and liver). It is unclear whether these symptoms can occur in people in the same situation.

6. Avocados role for liver

Consumption of one or two avocados per week contributes to the regeneration of damaged liver, in less than 30 days.

Avocados help increase levels of the glutathione, which is an excellent antioxidant. Broccoli has an action similar to that of avocados on the body.
