There are certain beverages that should indeed be avoided while breastfeeding. These beverages include those that are laden with caffeine like coffee, soda and energy drinks. These types of beverages contain high levels of caffeine which can be absorbed into the breast milk and passed on to the infant. Not only can this wreak havoc with a sleeping schedule, but this can also cause gas in the infant.

Avoiding caffeine can be an effective way to ensure that the infant is getting only healthy components through the breast milk, as opposed to getting high levels of caffeine that are going to irritate the under developed digestive system.
