The calendar method

For the start, note the first day of last menstrual period. This is the date of last menstrual cycle began. Then note the average number of days of your menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle begins on the first day of onset of menstruation and ends when your next period starts.

Number of days of menstrual cycle and the other is about 28 days. Calculate your average menstrual cycle length in the last 4-6 months. This may vary slightly from month to month. Average cycles of 4-6 months represent the average length of the menstrual cycle.

Ovulation test

Ovulation test or ovulation prediction kit works by detecting levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) in urine. Generally, the level of LH increases just before ovulation. Using these tests over several months can estimate the time when ovulation will occur.

For women who experience fertility problems, these tests help to determine when ovulation will occur. Sometimes the situation can be confusing because a woman may have menstruation even if she not ovulates, because the regular menstrual cycle may occur even in the absence of ovulation.

How to use properly the ovulation tests

You should try to propose which is the best time of the month to test. To do this, consider the shortest cycle and count backwards until you reach 14 to 16 days. In these days you can do the ovulation test.

Test your time between noon and 20. Do not use first morning urine. Do not take the test after drinking large amounts of liquid, because moisture can affect the results. If the test result is positive there is no need to make a new test.

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome get false positive results. If you suspect a problem, contact your doctor.

People with irregular menstrual cycles or who plan to use ovulation tests for a long period of time in order to avoid pregnancy, it might consider investing in a computer monitor that is easy to use and useful for interpreting the results and also for long term saving of money.

The basal temperature

Basal temperature is the lowest temperature of the body within 24 hours. The best time to be measured is when you wake up in the morning.

Before you get out of bed and brushing teeth to start your day, enter your basal thermometer in your mouth (this type of thermometer has very small errors, unlike others). It is important to try to wake up and measure your basal temperature every day at the same time.

Basal thermometers can be bought from pharmacies and are often accompanied by a diagram to evaluate temperature recorded each day. The goal is to find a model to increase basal temperature: maximum, constant or decreased. The maximum temperature indicates ovulation.

Before ovulation, your basal temperature will be between 36-36.5 C. Two or three days after ovulate, hormonal changes can cause an increase of 0.20-1,5 C of basal temperature, which will last at least until the next period (you can see that the temperature will change some day, but if not constant for several days, probably still not have ovulated). If you become pregnant, the temperature will remain high throughout pregnancy.

Surely if BBT chart specific assessment will conclude that you have already ovulated, the first months of basal temperature recording will not be very fruitful, but a few months if you use this method, you can establish a cycle model that will allow you to predict the next ovulation and discover the most suitable days for you to have sex if you want a child.

Remember that if you are sick or if you will not measure the temperature immediately after waking, any pattern that you think you fit could be wrong. In addition, to help to correctly predict ovulation using this method, you must treat before hormonal imbalances or problems of infertility.

Cervical mucus

There are many different types of vaginal discharge of which only one is the cervical mucus. During the menstrual cycle, amount, color, texture and quantity of cervical mucus will change due to fluctuating hormone levels.

Check your cervical mucus and keep track of its changes to know when you are ovulation. Your menstrual cycle will be characterized by the presence of menstrual blood. When menstruation ends, there will be no vaginal discharge, but a few days now could be cloudy mucus consistency boiled rice, sticky.

As ovulation approaches (often a few days before) the mucus becomes more clear and slippery, very close to raw egg white consistency and will be more important quantitatively.

Intercourse after ovulation free period

The fertile period lasts about five days: three to four days before ovulation and one day after ovulation. You can start the sexual activity a little early. You are fertile during this time because sperm can survive for five or six days in the female body and egg (released during ovulation) can survive one day.

Most experts recommend only place sex at least once every two days during the fertile period to increase your chances of conceiving.

In general, it is indicated that a couple to seek medical advice if trying to conceive pregnancy weren’t followed by pregnancy for 12 months (if you have unprotected sex occur during each fertile period each month).

However, if the woman is aged 30-40 years, seek medical help only after about 6-8 months to detect early if there are health problems of one of the couple.
