Many studies have been conducted in the last few years to look into the health benefits which the individuals can have by consuming green tea. The findings proved that the regular intake of green tea diminished several maladies which are frequently associated with aging of the individuals. The other diseases which normally occur due to aging process are stroke, osteoporosis and cognitive impairment. But currently, the authors are working on a new study which will focus on the health benefits which the individuals can have by consuming regular tea like the diminishing functional disabilities. Due to this a research project was undertaken by a group of researchers from A Graduate School of Medicine in Tokyo.

Data from the University of Maryland Medical Center says that “green tea has been consumed throughout the ages in India, China, Japan, and Thailand. In traditional Chinese and Indian medicine, practitioners used green tea as a stimulant, diuretic (to promote the excretion of urine), astringent (to control bleeding and help heal wounds), and to improve heart health. Other traditional uses of green tea include treating flatulence (gas), regulating body temperature and blood sugar, promoting digestion, and improving mental processes.”

The researchers from this school discovered that the elderly people who drink more of the green tea tend to have reduced cases of functional disabilities than those individuals who did not drink tea. These findings have been published in the journal of The American Periodical of Clinical Nutrition. The group describes the functional disabilities as those which obstruct normal life like being able to perform regular tasks of bathing and dressing without any help. To ascertain if the green tea really helps the individuals ward off the disabilities, the researchers conducted a survey of 13998 adults aged 65 or more. They followed their eating, exercising, drinking and health habits.

The team at the end of the survey discovered that individuals who consumed more green tea were predicted to have less number of functional disabilities. The research team does not claim that they have found an absolute proof that consuming more green tea will ward off the functional disability. But however the research suggests that the probability is much positive. Those who consumed more of the green tea also had improved life in much healthier style and stayed much fresh and active.
