According to two latest studies, metformin, an ancient herbal remedy can fight cancer. Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine which helps to control sugar level.
It decreases the livers glucose output. In one of the studies, Atsushi Nakajima of Yokohama City University School of Medicine in Japan and colleagues saw the effect of the metformin in the colon.
A colon polyph is an increase in the surface of the intestine(colon.)

The scientists identified 26 patients that had removed polyps , and they randomly chose 9 people and gave them metformin and the other 14 people placebo. After one month the result was that the people who had been treated with metformin had fewer lesions, whereas the second group had no change.

The second study was with mice, to whose It was induced an injection with tobacco carcinogen to cause lung cancer. To some of the mices it was given metformin with water and after 13 weeks it was seen a sharp decline in the tumor burden in the mice. When higher dose of metformin was given higher decline in the tumor burden was seen.

It is not very clear the mechanism by which metformin inhibits cancer, but we all hope that further discoveries on this issue continue thus changing the life of millions of people around the world.
