The research recommends that intense light or may be even simple day light could ease the threat of occurring a heart attack or experiencing damage from one such, says MD and PhD Tobias Eckle, who is also an assistant professor of cardiology, anesthesiology, cell and developmental biology. For the patients, this might mean that exposure to daylight inside the hospital might decrease which is resulted due to a heart attack.

How was the research conducted?

What is the association amid the myocardial infarction generally called a cardiac attack and light? The answer lies, which is very astonishing, in the circadian rhythm, the human being’s clock which is associated to dark and light. The circadian clock is controlled by proteins which are present in the brain. However these proteins can be found in other organs of the body also leaving brain. Holger Eltzschig and Eckle discovered that 1 of these proteins is also called Period 2, and this protein plays an important role in fending off the damage and injury which happens due to cardiac attack. With an international crew of special investigators, scientists, encompassing collaborators from the Division of Heart Department and the program of mucosal inflammation, the researchers printed their results in the research periodical Nature Medicine.

At times of heart attack, negligible or no oxygen reaches the heart. In the absence of oxygen, the heart has to change from its general fuel to fat to glucose. In the absence of the change of the heart metabolism, the cells die and damage the heart. Additional research shall attempt to recognize how light is capable of changing the heart metabolism in the human beings and how this can be applied to treat the cardiac arrests in patients.
