The health benefits derived from raspberry consumption

Raspberries are rich in ellagic acid, a phenolic compound that helps prevent cancer, inhibit the growth of cancer cells and stops the development of certain cancers.

Raspberry seed oil is a natural sun protection factor. It contains high levels of polyphenolic compounds known for their anti-cancer role. Berries contain powerful antioxidants such as vitamin C, quercetin and gallic acid.

The amount of carbohydrates and fiber in raspberries

- 1/2 cup fresh raspberries contains 3.5 grams (net) carbohydrate plus 4 grams of fiber and has 32 calories.
- 1/2 cup frozen raspberries has 6 grams of carbohydrate plus 2.5 grams fiber and 32 calories.
Recommended would be not be sweetened frozen raspberries.


Glycemic index for raspberries

There is no specific study that indicates the glycemic index of raspberry. Some sources have reported, compared with other similar foods, it would be about 40. 1/2 cup fresh raspberries would be expected to have a glycemic load of 1.5.
