Overview

Japanese Shiatsu massage is a relaxing way, but is based on a holistic way of treating the body. Shiatsu massage uses acupressure techniques applied with the hands, fingers, elbows and knees.

Acupressure techniques have their origins in acupuncture therapy and traditional Chinese medicine.

The difference between acupuncture and acupressure is that acupuncture uses very thin needles, while acupressure uses a deep tissue pressure on the 12 meridians of the body.

Shiatsu – healing therapy

Oriental Shiatsu became popular in Japan. At least one member of every family by the Japanese (especially women) practice Shiatsu massage to help other family members.

Because of its many benefits, Shiatsu massage is considered a healing therapy. However, Shiatsu therapy does not cure a disease, but has a direct effect on the meridians, which consequently helps to unblock energy points where the chi is blocked; blocked chi as a cause health problems.

Oriental medicine philosophy states that an unbalanced chi is the primary cause of disease of any kind. Shiatsu massage is used to establish or restore chi’s harmony in the body.


Shiatsu acupressure

Shiatsu acupressure’s technique uses only the same points as acupuncture. The basic techniques for this procedure are applied to the 12 meridians of the body and to the points that are situated along these energy meridians.

Pressure on these points is applied gently and slowly, but deeply enough that the patient feels a mild local pain. Therapist uses his entire body to create pressure on the meridians.

To apply shiatsu, the patient should change position: lying down, on the belly or on one side. This offers the therapist the opportunity to work every point of the energy meridians.


Zen Shiatsu

Zen is actually a way to meditate. Those who have implemented this type of massage used to believe that those who practice Shiatsu need to practice Zen meditation.

Zen meditation helps to acquire harmony between body and mind, help understand the chi’s manifestations inside the body, Shiatsu meridian concept of knowledge and their effects on health of the patient.

Map of meridians describes the entire system of the body as a whole through chi flows. Shiatsu massage helps to maintain harmony in this energy meridian system.
