It has been more than 1 month since the New Year passed and the swimsuit season is approaching, but how is the weight loss resolution working? Shedding off weight is one of the main resolutions that the individuals make every year but nearly 20% are able to shed off and keep themselves maintained, says Jessica Bartfield who is an expert in weight management and nutrition. Although 2/3rd of the individuals in America say that they are very strict in matters concerning their diet to maintain their health, yet very few of these are actually losing their weight.

Dieting is considered to be a skill which is similar to playing any musical instrument requiring much efforts, good instructions and practice. One might hit some wrong notes in the start but eventually practice will make them perfect and successful. There are four main reasons which throw light as to why it is difficult for some individuals to shed off their weight:

ü  Most of the individuals do not realize the number of calories that they are consuming regularly.

ü  As per a standard rule, an individual should trim down 500 calories every day if he aims to lose 1 lb. per week.   This is not that difficult as it requires 60 minutes of vigorous activity every day.

ü  Individuals are not much particular about the timings of their meals. One should eat breakfast regularly within an hour of his wake. They must not keep longer hours without eating anything. Eat a healthy meal or snack so that the metabolism of the body is steady.

ü  If the individual sleeps for less than 6 hours, it is sure that their appetite increases resulting in consumption of high calorie food and hence weight gain.

In a separate article, it was also found out that emotional eating can often lead to weight loss difficulties, “emotional eating is eating as a way to suppress or soothe negative emotions, such as stress, anger, fear, boredom, sadness and loneliness. Both major life events and the hassles of daily life can trigger negative emotions that lead to emotional eating and disrupt your weight-loss efforts. These triggers may include:

  • Unemployment
  • Financial pressure
  • Health problems
  • Relationship conflicts
  • Work stress
  • Bad weather
  • Fatigue”

The experts suggest that the individuals can shed off their weight easily if they adopt good practices in their daily life and determine to follow them regularly.
