How to treat internal hemorrhoids

There are several alternative methods for treating internal hemorrhoids, but the correct choice depends on the size and severity of hemorrhoids. For the first and second-degree hemorrhoids therapy, doctors recommend to start with less invasive approaches such as home treatment. This includes warm sitz baths, several times a day, which will use salt or ice. Laxatives and drugs to treat hemorrhoids that can be obtained without a prescription are another solution to reduce hemorrhoids.

Another alternative to cure internal hemorrhoids is topical application of ointments, creams and gels, but this method is not so commonly used, because many of the products available to treat hemorrhoids can cause allergic reactions.

Regarding surgical treatment of hemorrhoids, there are many options. With rubber band ligation, hemorrhoid laser surgery, laser coagulation and sclerotherapy are used to remove swollen blood vessels and relieve symptoms.

The basic principle of surgery is that when blood flow to the hemorrhoids is obstructed, they shrink and detach. Hemorrhoidectomy and stapled hemorrhoidectomy are some surgical methods of treatment of internal hemorrhoids, during which the affected vein and surrounding tissue are removed.

Diet for internal hemorrhoids

- Foods rich in fiber – A fiber diet helps prevent internal hemorrhoids by avoiding straining during elimination seat. Foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains will soften stools and will help increase their volume, while the bowel movements will be easier.

- Intake of liquid – liquid consumption is an important factor to prevent constipation and straining during elimination seat – which can aggravate existing hemorrhoids and increase the risk of developing several internal hemorrhoids. Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily to keep stools soft. Drink more water when exercising or when temperatures are high. Alcohol should be avoided.

- Foods that may predispose to the formation of internal hemorrhoids – Certain foods can aggravate the problem of internal hemorrhoids. Spicy and high fat foods, and dairy products fall into this category. Recommended is that they are excluded from the diet or be consumed in small amounts until disappearance of the hemorrhoids. Talk to your doctor to determine together which foods should be removed from your diet and that should be consumed in moderation.
