Vitamin C during pregnancy

Recommend to others!

Vitamin C helps increase iron levels in the body. The main sources of vitamin C are fresh fruits and vegetables.

Foods rich vitamin C:
Each serving contains 30 mg of vitamin C, but they are also good sources of vitamin B6 and folic acid, vitamin A and fiber.

Eat at least 1-2 servings per day:
– Oranges, tomatoes, lemon or grapefruit juice
– Fruit juices fortified with vitamin C
– Kiwi, mango, papaya
– Half a cup of strawberries
– Half a cup of cantaloupe cut
– Half a cup of broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, beans, Brussels sprouts
– 2 medium tomatoes
– Half a grapefruit

Can Vitamin C stop an early pregnancy?
You would have to get a lot of pure vitamin C to put your pregnancy in danger. It’s simply not doable.

Is Vitamin C good or bad for the pregnancy?
Certainly, too much Vitamin C can cause vitamin c resistance in babies (leading to scurvy – see mayoclinic citation) and miscarriages (see sisterzeus citation). Also, high levels of Vit. C combined with iron salts (non-heme, the iron in nearly all vitamins) can create a chemical reaction in the GI tract that may lead to ulcers and GI cancers. It is best to avoid pill supplements and stick to getting natural vit C from the above sources.
