What is best : using a deodorant or an antiperspirant?

Humans pay very much attention on how they look and how they smell. Nowadays people are not limiting themselves to just being clean. They use all kinds of hygiene products that make their skin smell divine and look fresh. But are they safe for us?

When it comes to daily products that we use we first think about deodorants. Deodorants are great if you are not much of a sweating person. This is due to the fact that they only cover up sweat with their lovely scent, but they don’t do anything against stopping it. Also, they neutralize the unpleasant smell of sweat as they contain antiseptic agents who are great for destroying the bacteria that develop within the sweat (the reason why transpiration smells bad is due to this bacteria that develop in time if you don not take a shower as soon as you start sweating). Deodorants are preferred by many people as they allow the body to sweat, which is a natural mechanism for cooling down the human organism.

If you sweat a lot and your blouses and T-shirts are always wet under your arms, you should focus more on using an antiperspirant product instead on relying on a deodorant. Antiperspirants work by blocking up the sweating channels from within the skin. This way wetness is reduced or even stopped for twelve to twenty four hours. You might think that this product is not healthy at all as it does not let your body sweat any more as it normally does. The thing is that you will not sweat in your armpit area where you applied the antiperspirant, but your body will be forced to find other opened sweating channels on your body to release sweat when needed.

One of the disadvantages with using antiperspirants would be the fact that they contain aluminum. As you might have read in newspapers and magazines, aluminum has found to be involved in triggering Alzheimer disease. Another thing that can happen if antiperspirants are used for too long is the appearance of one or more nodules underneath your arm, cause by the blockage and infection of one or more of the sweat channels. This problem can be solved only by surgical means.

The bad thing with deodorants would be the fact that they contain parabens, compounds that seem to play an important part into triggering breast cancer.

A great solution for keeping sweat smell away from you and not using deodorants or antiperspirant would be using cornstarch and baking soda. Place these ingredients in a bowl, and blend them as good as you can. Use a small quantity of the obtained powder to cover up a damp washcloth. Pat your armpits with that. Don’t rinse.
